Cátia Martins has a first degree (honor) in Nutrition and Dietetics from Oporto University (Portugal), a M.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition (distinction) from Roehampton University, London (UK) and a Ph.D. from University of Surrey (UK). She was awarded two  Postdoctoral fellowships in 2008 and 2010 (from the Portuguese research council and Central Norway Regional Health Authority/NTNU, respectively) for conducting research on the role of exercise on appetite control in obese individuals. In 2011 she started as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, NTNU, where she is responsible for delivering two modules in the master in "Obesity and Health". Dr. Martins' research focuses on the compensatory mechanisms activated with weight loss, both at the level of energy expenditure and appetite, which may increase the risk of relapse and potential strategies to minimize them. Moreover, she is also interested on the role of exercise on energy balance and body weight homeostasis, in particular its impact on appetite control. She has published several original and review papers and book chapters in this area.
